In 1951, Mr. Charles P. Speitel, part owner of Pennsylvania Malleable Inc., formed Peerless Hardware as the machining and finishing division of Pennsylvania Malleable to complement the foundry's effort to supply finished products to its customers.

Over the years, Peerless developed its own product line that consisted mainly of "specials" which were not produced by other high volume manufacturers. Some of the "specials" included Wing Nuts and Thumb Screws with non-standard configurations and sizes; Marine Hardware; General Hardware such as blocks, pulleys and sheaves; and more recently Construction Hardware, along with an assortment of cast products produced according to a customer's specifications and requirements.

The foundry was eventually sold, but Mr. Speitel retained ownership of Peerless Hardware and forged relationships with local foundries that still exist today. In 1968, Mr. Speitel relocated Peerless to its current location in Columbia, Pennsylvania. In 1981, Mr. James W. Speitel assumed control of the business after the death of his father and further strengthened its commitment to producing quality castings.

James W. Speitel expanded Peerless' network of foundries by pursuing international sources in the mid 1980's. He was definitely on the forefront of establishing international relationships. The addition of these sources broadened Peerless' capabilities and continued its mission to provide quality castings at competitive prices.

In 2006, after the death of their father, James and Peter Speitel became third generation owners of Peerless Hardware. As new owners, they are committed to the values of both their father and grandfather that helped forge the strong customer base that Peerless experiences today. The addition of new manufacturing processes such as forging and steel fabrication, along with stainless steel being introduced, has strengthened Peerless' customer base. James and Peter are committed to building a long and prosperous business by providing their customers with the highest quality castings along with the personal touch that Peerless' customers have grown to expect.
